The Origin Story

Tanzania hosts established emerald deposits, and the finest stones sourced through Tanzanian channels compete with the world's premium origins for vivid chromium-green saturation. This crystal was acquired through a licensed Tanzanian gem supplier in early 2024 — its colour saturation and internal character immediately marked it as a stone of private commission quality.

Acquired through a licensed Tanzanian gem dealer. Recovered from a primary deposit by artisan miners using hand tools and assessed on-site before entering the supply chain. The crystal was hand-extracted intact from the surrounding matrix.

Geological Note

Tanzanian emeralds form in hydrothermal veins within ancient metamorphic formations. The chromium and vanadium colouring agents that define fine stones of this quality are present in the region's geological structures — producing vivid, warm greens of significant depth and character.

The Landscape

The highlands of northern Tanzania are a landscape of ancient geology and volcanic terrain — host to one of the continent's most diverse concentrations of fine gemstone deposits.

Why This Stone Was Selected

Selected for its vivid colour saturation and relatively transparent body. The jardin (inclusions) are characteristic of the finest East African emeralds and serve as a natural provenance marker. This stone's inclusions are well-distributed and do not interrupt the colour.

Selected by: Gemologist

Rarity Note

Fine emeralds above 3ct are rarer than equivalent diamonds or rubies of similar quality. A verified Tanzanian-origin vivid green with no oil or minimal treatment commands significant premiums on the international market.

Ethical Sourcing

Sourced through a licensed Tanzanian gem supplier. Placeholder documentation — full origin certification and ESG reporting to follow when supplier verification is complete.

The rough can yield a 3.5–4ct traditional emerald cut — a step-cut rectangle so associated with this stone that it carries the stone's own name. Alternatively, a cabochon would reveal the depth of the green without the structural demands of faceting.
